FBI Season 7 Casts Flash Star In Key Role Connected To Isobel

FBI season 7 has just cast a crucial role that nobody has ever heard of until recently. The hit CBS franchise is going through a period of change, with the spinoff FBI: CIA in the works and the cancellation of both FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International. But there's about to be a significant shift in terms of who is joining the FBI season 7 cast, reflecting a character development that was only recently shared.

TVLine confirms that The Flash star Tom Cavanagh has been cast as the husband of Special Agent in Charge Isobel Castille (Alana de la Garza). Cavanagh, best known for the NBC dramedy Ed and in the role of Harrison Wells, among others, on The CW's The Flash, will play Phillip. It's a character that, up until a recent episode, no one even knew existed. Cavanagh's other TV credits include Scrubs, Royal Pains, and Blue Bloods. It's not yet announced when Cavanagh's first FBI appearance will air.

What The Latest Casting Means For FBI Season 7

Isobel Revealed More About Her Life Recently

Isobel is interviewed by the news in FBI

Isobel's personal life came to light during FBI season 7, episode 11, "Shelter." In the episode, which centered on a gunman with cartel connections, FBI Special Agent Omar Adom "OA" Zidan (Zeeko Zaki) talks with Isobel about maintaining a separate work-life balance. Throughout the conversation, Isobel shares for the first time that she has a husband. It is a new relationship, however, since they only got married a few months ago.

Isobel's new husband has three daughters, which causes the Special Agent in Charge to marvel at her situation. It's possible that after the revelation in the episode, Phillip will turn out to be a secret villain who purposefully targeted Isobel. That would be something of a trope in shows like FBI. Alternatively, it could turn out that their relationship is solid and that Cavanagh will have a gradually more significant part in the story.

Our Take On The New FBI Casting

The Show Works Differently Than Some Network Dramas

  • FBI OA standing and listening to Isobel
  • FBI Maggie standing in a parking lot wearing a blue winter coat and hat and looking worried
  • FBI Jubal standing and looking at something off-screen
  • Syd and Scola standing together and looking straight ahead in FBI season 7
  • FBI the team holding up their glasses for a toast in a bar

Unlike other network dramas, such as 9-1-1 and Grey's Anatomy, the focus of the CBS series is tilted to the case in any given week rather than the personal lives of the agents and their conflicts. This means that it's not too surprising that FBI has been able to keep Isobel's big wedding a secret. There may well be a reason for that, though, which will come up at some point this season.

FBI season 7 airs Tuesdays at 8 PM ET on CBS
