‘FBI’ Spinoff Involving CIA Agents in the Works at CBS

A spinoff of the popular CBS cop drama “FBI” that will focus partly on CIA agents is currently in works, Variety has confirmed.

The potential new entry in the “FBI” franchise would originate as a planted spinoff, with new character introduced in an upcoming episode of “FBI.”

The official logline of the new project, currently titled “FBI: CIA,” states, “A dedicated, strait-laced FBI agent and a street-smart CIA agent are part of a new, clandestine taskforce charged with solving and preventing domestic terrorism in and around New York City.”

The show is targeting a potential series pickup for the 2025-2026 season. Casting is currently underway for three characters who will be introduced in the “FBI” episode who would then serve as series regulars in the new show should it get greenlit.

Dick Wolf is set as a writer and executive producer along with “FBI: Most Wanted” showrunner David Hudgins as well as Nicole Perlman and David Chasteen. Peter Jankowski of Wolf Entertainment will executive produce. Universal Television and CBS Studios will produce.

Should “FBI: CIA” go forward, it would be the fourth entry in the franchise for CBS. The broadcaster also currently airs both “FBI: Most Wanted” and “FBI: International.” Most recently, “FBI” was renewed for three additional seasons back in April 2024, while “Most Wanted” and “International” were renewed for one season each.

This is also the latest potential franchise expansion that will be introduced in a current season of a CBS show. The network is also currently working on a spinoff of “The Equalizer” starring Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz and a spinoff of the multi-cam comedy “The Neighborhood” starring Marcel Spears and Sheaun McKinney.
