Grey’s Anatomy tells fans to “brace yourself” for season finale that’s as dramatic as this iconic episode

Grey's Anatomy fans may just be in for an explosive season 21 finale as the show teases a callback to an iconic OG episode.

The latest season is coming to a close with an episode airing tonight in the US. On their social media, Grey's has sent fans in a frenzy when they warned viewers to "get ready" for a season finale resembling season 2 two-parter 'It's The End of the World' and 'As We Know It'.

"This Thursday's finale has the same vibe. Get ready," Grey's posted on their official Instagram account alongside two stills of Christina Ricci's paramedic character in the OR with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Christina (Sandra Oh).

If you're in need of a Grey's refresher, the two-part storyline had Ricci's Hannah Davies stick her hand in a patient's chest cavity to control his bleeding only to realise she was touching a bazooka shell.

When Hannah understandably freaked out and couldn't be calmed down, Meredith took her place, with the story reaching a tragic conclusion when Seattle Bomb Squad Leader Dylan Young (played by fan-favourite guest star Kyle Chandler) died carrying the shell.

On Instagram, die-hard Grey's fans agreed the two-parter was "the most incredible episode ever", while others weren't sure the new season could pull off anything as engaging as the season 2 storyline.

"You need new storylines. The newer seasons don't hold a candle to the OG ones," one person wrote, with another agreeing: "No way is the current finale as insane as the bomb episodes. Epic Grey's."

"Ummm that's pretty big hype… if you're gonna talk the talk, please I beg you, walk that walk! I still watch every week but…" another fan commented.

"To be on the air for so long that you're a reboot of yourself is low key iconic on a totally different level," joked someone else.

Meanwhile, some fans start guessing which character could be the casualty of the brand new storyline, with many urging to keep Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) safe.
