How Isobel’s Twist in FBI Season 7 Finale Benefits One Original Character

Isobel Castille, played by Alana de la Garza, from FBI's fate is in limbo following the season 7 finale twist, which could be good for Jubal Valentine. The episode reveals that the anti-government group Forefront entered the FBI's New York field office and orchestrated an attack using cell phones rigged with explosives, killing several agents. Isobel is one of the many agents who was thought to be dead by the explosives, but somehow survives and pretends to help Deputy Assistant Director Simon Keene, a Forefront mole. She recorded Keene plotting with Special Agent Wabash, another mole, evidence that allowed Isobel to arrest them.

After a successful mission, all seemed well with the team. However, things took a turn for the worse at the end of the episode when Isobel fell right outside the FBI office, unresponsive. Jubal finds her outside and immediately checks on her, feeling she has no pulse. This left season 7 on a cliffhanger, with many wondering what Isobel's faith will turn out to be in FBI season 8.

Even though Jubal relies heavily on Isobel, and so does the rest of the team, if Isobel doesn't return for season 8, this could mean Jubal might take over her position as the Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office. Jubal is currently the Assistant Special Agent, meaning he is one step below Isobel. If she doesn't make it into season 8 alive, there is a possibility that Jubal could be the new Special Agent in New York.

As the supervisor, Jubal could finally be where he wanted to be in his career. Even though he has enjoyed working with Isobel over the last seven seasons, Jubal does deserve a promotion. However, I can't imagine Jubal would want to get a promotion this way. If Isobel does die and Jubal takes her position, it will be difficult for him to adjust to the new role without feeling like he didn't truly earn the role.

Why Jubal Has Never Been Promoted As Supervisor In Charge Despite Multiple FBI Boss Changes

It's unclear why Jubal was never promoted on FBI throughout its seven seasons. Jubal is a capable leader but is more focused on doing his job correctly rather than fighting for a promotion. In the world of national security, those who work there care more about the safety of others than promotion; however, that's not to say people like Jubal don't deserve one or haven't thought about it. In fact, he did apply for the position in the past.

Since he didn't get the position, maybe Jubal thought it was best to leave the leadership to Isobel and his other boss over the years. He also had a few personal struggles, such as his issues with alcohol, which may be hindering a potential future promotion. Nonetheless, Jubal does deserve one and may get one if Isobel doesn't return next season.
